Feature Request - Timer to control power/brightness

This is a feature more than a few people asked for when visiting our booth at Maker Faire. The general request was that the display turn off at night. Another request was that the display dim automatically in the evenings.

Hi, I´m wondering if the IR receiver could be abused to detect the environment light situation.
Or if there is any way to read the leds from the panel somehow. In general it works like described here: LED Camera | Blinkenlight

Unfortunately we don’t have access to the direct signals for the LEDs, or the raw IR sensor. The LEDs are driven through shift registers and the IR sensor is integrated and does some filtering for ambient light before passing on a digital signal. Good ideas though!
